20050219 MIT OpenCourseWare

I had read about the MIT (Massachussets Institute of Technology) intentions about releasing their knowledge archive and make it publicly available some day, maybe a few years ago. For some reason I have reached their page again and I have realised that they have finally done what they promised.. which is really GREAT! There are lots of courses in lots of subjects and areas. I have been taking a non-in-depth look and it's really promising. There are notes, even whole books, all of them available without annoying pop-up windows, no need for subscription, anything, free knowledge as the internet gurus said once it should be.

I am a kind of self-taught person so this news is very cool for me. It means I can read interesting subjects without fearing the data is wrong or something like that.

It's a pity other universities in the world don't do the same. Everybody would get benefit from it, even themselves. Trust me, it's a very good news.

20050217 becanne & other stuff

Today humphrey has managed to release becanne #4 … the latest one that will be edited by him. This issue has been written completely in english. As expected, the foreigner people has received this news with great pleasure. Lots of rulez on pouet, which in fact encourages after the hard work which is writing in a non-mother tongue. And as expected too, some stupid troll has said something like becanne in english stinks (in spanish, of course).

I somehow was waiting for this type of negative response to our efforts. You make the best that you can without being arrogant in any aspect and then you get that sample of human stupidity. It reminds me of the feelings I get on every party during and after the playing of the music compos. Almost nobody -even the jury people- pay attention to the entries. No respect for the authors in any way. That makes me feel angry.
Luckily I changed my opinion a bit on bcnparty100. There were being played the high quality entries; I was a bit stressed trying to get a working version of the demo we released there (blue tuesday) but I was also trying to listen to the songs. Then I noted that the foreign sceners (dixan, ps, etc) were sitting just in the first row in front of the main stage, listening to the music peacefully, enjoying and commenting each one of the entries, and it made me think something like: ok, at least someone will listen to my song - which in fact was one of the last ones to be played. I didn't expect any type of special reaction, and Silenci, which had been listening and dancing to the chiptunes just a bit before, had left the main hall, so I was not prepared for what occured then…
My song started - in that moment I was trying to run my demo on yero's computer, I told him: yep! this is my song!. He told me really!!? and all of that … and when the second chorus arrived and the megavocoder was supported by some more vocoded voices, I suddenly realized that all those sceners were singing with MY song!! Of course they didn't sing any lyrics, because they are ununderstandable, but it was nice anyway!
It was such a wonderful sensation! At least I did not feel at all that making great efforts to finish the song and having it ready for the party had been for nothing, a stupid waste of time.
In fact I have thought about that lots of times and that's why I didn't release any multichannel on this bcnparty. I am tired of doing my best to finish a brand new song for a party and after that not being listened by anyone, and even more (and worse) - view how people releases songs which have been included on cd's, recopilations, whatever… that's really sad…
It is not a question of winning or not - it's a question of respect to others. I also had some old songs of mine in the hard disk. I could have released something in multichannel compo for bcnparty but I didn't. I knew it was not honest, and I didn't have time nor felt like doing a song from scratch. I was a bit sorry about not releasing anything in this compo but I prefered to remain unaware of all… and enjoy my ignorance…
Maybe with becanne is better to do what trace said about the little trolls… ignore them!

I would LOVE to learn spanish!!). I would attend for sure!!.

20050215 weather forecast: sleet

Aguanieve quiere decir la palabrita.
