One key, though, is making sure your Software Update is, well, up to date. When I install it on a new system, it seems I usually have to update twice before things start working right. Also, it's happy to take m2v and ac3 files, if you prefer to compress them outside of DVDSP (that's what Compressor is for). Anyway, interesting article, thanks for putting it together! I only used iDVD once and it was enough to solve my problem. And you can drag in pictures from any Finder window, not need to rely on the iPhoto library. You might want to try Fraps to capture those troublesome demos/intros. You shouldn't have any problem recording full-screen footage at 1024@30FPS, provided you have a "fast" CPU or a dual-core one.
