"The Aspern papers and The turn of the screw" (Henry James, 1907-1909)

The Aspern papers and The turn of the screw

This was an unexpected gift and I don't think I'd ever chosen this book, so it was great to be surprised with it.

It has also been one of the hardest books I've ever read. Henry James's style is thick and complicated, sometimes even tedious, and I found myself going back to the beginning of the paragraph and re-reading it to ensure I hadn't lost the point.

That said, both the stories in this book had truly scary moments and I still remember the eerie atmosphere depicted in them. Months later! So one thing for the other.
