I really really really don't want to hear about funerals ever again in my life (yes, I know, but this week has been way too much)
... and the helicopters... that has been so tedious too! Had to play music nonstop to drone the noise away. Unbearable.
Related: I was really smashing it in my run in the park when I was cut short and told to retrace my steps because parts of the park were cordoned off "due to Joe Biden's visit". I was thinking internally: REALLY? Can't he stay in a hotel? No, he has to stay in a mansion of course. And ruin my park route!
I have had enough of dignitaries visiting. Please stop it. Or at least leave the parks alone please.
A big disadvantage of the weather getting cooler is that the lovely grumpy cat that sits outside a house near the park when it's hot and meaows at every passer-by is not sitting outside anymore, so I miss it. That cat displays such poignant expression of annoyance at the heat.
We also had some electrical work done in our kitchen. It was sort of amusing to help the electrician debug the kitchen, as we both had no idea where the plugs and cables were behind the cabinets so we had to figure that out together. I felt like I was pair-inspecting a stack trace.
Big food event of the week: we made lasagna from scratch. I made the sheets! They were too small and the first one was too thin and the second one too thick, but we eventually found the right thickness. They're really easy to make so I foresee more hand made lasagna in the future.
I remembered about the unfinished scarf in a drawer: my partner started it but hated the yarn so didn't finish it. It's somehow tricky because the hairy bits can get tangled with the tip of the needles, specially if you are a tight knitter, but it has a novelty multi colour scheme and I adore seeing the patterns and colours form and change... so this will be finished soon I reckon! (by me, obviously)
"Miss Mapp" from E.F. Benson - really silly books! I'm now on "Lucia in London"
At work:
I felt it's been a lot of juggling various things in my head this week, but things are getting momentum
If you asked me what have I used the most this week it would be "attention to detail"
Sometimes it can feel a bit fastidious (even I feel fastidious myself) but it's this patience to go through each and every case that highlights where someone forgot about 'that simple thing' that turns out to be the tip of the iceberg and what looks like a "one day task" becomes two weeks of work :D
not that things don't need to be done, but if it's going to be fundamentally a different size, maybe you don't want it now
The other word of the week has been ALIGNMENT (the one we finally got! yay)
It's funny when different parts of a team/company start work for a project at different times and how the perception of each one is so different; and how you manage the different levels of energy, patience, expectations... that is quite the art.
I've also enjoyed meeting new joiners and learning about their background and hearing their ideas and perspectives on what we're doing.
And helping people figure out bugs and spot good things in code reviews! Slowly feeling more valuable as I do more and more reviews. I haven't written anything but pseudocode and requirements this week 😆
