Have you discovered a better solution to your post (http://www.soledadpenades.com/2006/12/15/how-to-set-up-the-web-server-for-working-in-a-team/) In particular I am wondering about the creation or copying of new files inheriting the correct permissions. I have used your method for several web servers and thank you for sharing the information.

I mean, if you have the 's' bit in the group permission, it should inherit the group, and the permission comes from the default umask if I'm not wrong.
